Real Mushrooms vs FreshCap Reishi Capsules: Labels and Cost Comparison
Real Mushrooms and FreshCap reishi capsules list at nearly the same price but differ in serving count, part used and extraction wording.
By Mushroom Explorer · Published 2026-09-30 · Sources checked 2026-09-30
As observed on 2026-09-30, the selected packages of Real Mushrooms Organic Reishi Mushroom Capsules and FreshCap Organic Reishi Mushroom Capsules carried listed one-time prices a few cents apart: $39.95 and $39.99 respectively. The packages behind those prices differ in size, and the labels and product pages describe their contents in different terms.
The FreshCap selection covers more label servings for nearly the same price, names fruiting body and spore where Real Mushrooms names fruiting body, and prints a different scientific name. Every cost figure here rests on listed prices and on label or product-page declarations, not on a test of the lot being sold.
Exact labels and recorded costs
Observed 2026-09-30. These exact variants were checked separately from the older catalog snapshot published August 20, 2026, so values can differ. Minimum statements remain minimum statements; sample COA results are kept separate from the arithmetic. A label serving is the package’s stated unit.

Nearly equal prices, different serving counts
The Real Mushrooms selection is listed as 90 capsules · RM-RX45C. Its label defines a serving as 2 capsules, which puts the package at 45 label servings; that count is derived by dividing the capsule count by the label serving size. The FreshCap selection is 120 capsules, with a label serving of 2 capsules and 60 servings per the package count and Supplement Facts.
Dividing each listed one-time price by its serving count gives $0.8878 per label serving for Real Mushrooms and $0.6665 for FreshCap. With package prices almost the same, that gap comes from the serving count. Both figures use the single-unit price only; shipping, tax and subscription offers are left out.
The Real Mushrooms panel lists 1000 mg of extract per serving and the FreshCap panel lists 1000 mg. The matching figure does not make the servings the same material, because the part used, the printed scientific name and the extraction statement all differ.
Fruiting body versus fruiting body and spore
Real Mushrooms' product page states fruiting body as the part used. FreshCap's Supplement Facts ingredient description names fruiting body and spore. FreshCap's own materials are not fully consistent here: the Supplement Facts panel and the FAQ include spore, while the shorter ingredient text leaves it out. This comparison follows the full label description.
The printed scientific names differ too: Ganoderma lingzhi on the Real Mushrooms label and Ganoderma lucidum on the FreshCap panel. Each name is kept exactly as printed, and the two are not treated as interchangeable; the labels alone do not settle how the material in each product relates to the other.
The non-mushroom ingredients also differ. Below its Supplement Facts, the Real Mushrooms label lists hypromellose (vegetable capsule), microcrystalline cellulose (flow agent), silicon dioxide and stearic acid. FreshCap's product page ingredient listing gives a pullulan capsule as the other ingredient.
A method statement and a ratio
The brands state extraction in terms that cannot be set side by side. Real Mushrooms' product-specific FAQ says dual extraction, and no extract ratio is stated for this product in the material reviewed. FreshCap's Supplement Facts panel carries a 14:1 declared extract ratio; that statement is a ratio, not a method.
A method name and a ratio answer different questions, so neither converts into the other, and the Real Mushrooms ratio stays unknown. The FreshCap ratio is not used as a multiplier in the cost figures: the 1000 mg on its panel is extract mass, not a raw-mushroom-equivalent mass.
How the beta-glucan cost figures are built
The labels declare beta-glucan in different forms. Real Mushrooms' Supplement Facts prints a flat 250 mg of beta-glucan per serving, with no at-least or greater-than wording, and that milligram figure is the only beta-glucan input used; general percentage claims are set aside. FreshCap's panel says the extract is standardized to contain 27 percent beta-glucan. Because that declaration is a percentage, the per-serving amount is calculated by applying it to the 1000 mg serving.
On those declarations, the listed one-time price works out to $3.5511 per gram of declared beta-glucan for Real Mushrooms and $2.4685 for FreshCap. The FreshCap figure is lower, and it rests on a standardization percentage where the Real Mushrooms figure rests on a stated milligram amount. Both beta-glucan inputs are label declarations; neither is an assay of the lot being sold.
What the sample report covers and what stays unknown
Real Mushrooms publishes a sample report for its reishi capsules. The report carries the package code of a larger capsule-count offer from the brand, not the code of the selected package, 90 capsules · RM-RX45C, and it does not establish the lot currently being shipped. It describes the named sample supplied for that report, so it stays out of the cost arithmetic and is not treated as confirmation of what the selected package contains.
No product-specific report link was found on the inspected FreshCap page; whether a report exists elsewhere is not established. No cost figure in this comparison is backed by a test matched to the selected package.
Reading this comparison
At nearly the same listed one-time price, the FreshCap selection covers 60 label servings against 45 for Real Mushrooms, and its price per label serving and per gram of declared beta-glucan are lower on the arithmetic above. The labels and product pages still describe different things: part used, printed scientific name, extraction statement and the form of the beta-glucan declaration. Lot-level evidence is the open item for both: the Real Mushrooms sample report names a different package code, and no product-specific report link was found on the inspected FreshCap page.
